When Takashi Miike exploded on the scene ten years ago, Audition shook international audiences with its repulsive blend of violence and sensuality.
Often lauded as one of the best horror films of the 1990s, Audition has compiled a laundry list of awards and praise since its debut; finally reaching mainstream appeal by securing a spot on Bravo’s Top 100 Scariest Moments of All-Time.
To commemorate its tenth year anniversary, Shout Factory is releasing a two-disc set on Blu-ray, complete with a new, high definition transfer from the original negative.
Also included is a new audio commentary and video introduction from Miike, cast interviews, trailers and liner notes. And for purists, Miike will be presenting the uncut version of his influential film.
You will never look at women the same way again.

3. DRAG ME TO HELL

We missed you, Sam. It’s nice to have you back.
Within minutes of the startling opening scene, Drag Me to Hell proudly announces Sam Raimi’s triumphant return to the genre that launched his career.
Displaying an unbridled, childlike enthusiasm for horror long thought expired, the director’s unseen hand feels like a kid anxiously hiding behind corners; waiting to jump out from the shadows and scare anyone brave enough to walk by.
The 2.4:1-framed, 1080p Blu-ray release will be supported with a 5.1 Dolby DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, but a modest set of supplemental material. Touting only production diaries, BD Live and D-Box motion support, the film is bolstered by the inclusion of both the theatrical and unrated director’s cut.
Unless the transfer is totally wrecked by Universal, this will likely be the best, Halloween-flavored Blu-ray available for the holiday, and one that should work its way into any sleepovers, parties or festivities.
