Sony details District 9 Blu-ray
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment finally announced the street date for its sleeper science-fiction blockbuster, District 9, on Blu-ray – along with a promising set of supplemental material.
And the wait won’t be long.
Fans will be able to get their mittens on the Blu-ray just shortly after the holidays; available for purchase in the UK on December 28th and in the US on December 29th.
Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, District 9 depicts his native South Africa as a slum for stranded aliens referred to as “prawns”. Produced by Peter Jackson for a budget of only $30 million, the surprise summer hit went on to gross over $163 million worldwide.
The two-disc Blu-ray set, which will also include a digital copy, will be presented with a 1080p, 1.85:1-framed transfer and 5.1 Dolby DTS-HD Master Audio track.
That is in addition to director audio commentary, an interactive map of the District 9 world, production diaries, concept art and storyboards, a visual effects featurette, and robust BD Live support with the inclusion of MovieIQ and Cinechat.
Blomkamp, a self-confessed effects nerd, promises to keep the Blu-ray set lively with his love for technology and filmmaking.
… now don’t you kind of wish he was still making the Halo movie?
