Fox, Lionsgate launch Blu-ray features for iPhones

Yeah, there's an app for that.

Yeah, there's an app for that.

Both Fox and Lionsgate have big plans in store for iPhone owners, hoping to bridge the gap between the living room and mobile entertainment with iPhone connectivity for several forthcoming releases.

Fox plans to rollout this new feature, dubbed FoxPop, for upcoming Blu-ray releases of Night at the Museum 2, (500) Days of Summer and Jennifer’s Body. Users will have to download the program to their computer and mobile device first, and then use the mobile interface to browse production information, take quizzes and even purchase film soundtracks through iTunes.

FoxPop users will even be able to update their Facebook and Twitter status in real-time through the much hyped program.

“FoxPop furthers our commitment to providing consumers with the most exceptional home entertainment experience possible,” said Mary Daily, executive VP of North America marketing at Fox. “By providing interesting movie-related information and the ability to engage with fellow Night at the Museum: Battle of Smithsonian audiences, the application creates a powerful new connection between the movie and its viewer.”

Lionsgate, however, is still working out the kinks for its iPhone cross connectivity for the Blu-ray release of Gamer. Utilizing BluFocus’ BDTouch technology, Gamer also will include the application MetaMenu, which will turn iPhones into remote controls to send screen grabs to friends and also enable people to interact with Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“We are competing whether we like it or not with other devices in the living room,” said Miguel Casillas, senior VP of DVD/Blu-ray production at Lionsgate. “So why not marry the two [Blu-ray and iPhones]. People can enjoy the content in different ways. Rather than compete with people surfing the Internet or texting, you can bring your mobile device to the party.”

BDTouch also will be a part of upcoming Anchor Bay Entertainment Blu-ray titles, including the first season of Highlander.

More as it develops.

I have just began with my own website and I really like this particular template. Is it free or a version of those premium templates? Sorry, I’m new to this and just looking for suggestions. BTW, I check your site nearly everyday.
