Poor thing has passed out from all the excitement!

Poor thing has passed out from all the excitement!

In giddy genre news, Cine-Excess and Nouveaux Pictures formally announced that Dario Argento’s horror classic, Suspiria, will be available on Blu-ray for the first time ever this January.

Anxious UK fans will be to able to secure their own copy on January 18th, date and day with the standard definition release. US readers will, unfortunately, just have to hold their breath.

The classic film will receive a brand new, high-definition transfer, although no specs have been detailed. It was announced, however, that the disc would come included with a full audio commentary track, a documentary on the production and a retrospective with cast and crew.

Released in 1977, Suspiria depicts the trials and tribulations of American student at a prestigious European dance academy that may or may not be home to a coven of murderous witches.

And yes, it is as bizarre as that sounds.

In recent years, Argento’s classic film has developed a passionate following, rating highly in critics’ lists from Entertainment Weekly, Total Film and Bravo. Its soundtrack, from Goblin, has also secured a cult following over the past decades.

To further entice potential owners, January 18th just happens to be my birthday. What possibly could be better than scoring Dario Argento’s best film on Blu-ray and then celebrating the momentous occasion with a slice of cake?

Answer: Nothing.
