I Love You, Man Blu-ray review

I think we found Daniel Craig's replacement.
BIAS:
I have a man crush on Paul Rudd. I’ve seen pretty much every Paul Rudd movie ever, starting from Halloween 6 (don’t ask). It’s something of an unrequited bromance.
Rudd got his big break when the McKay and Apatow troupes began to blow up on screen this past decade, usually as a supporting character with a string of solid performances. Within the past year, he’s gotten a chance to be a leading man, with Role Models and I Love You, Man.
Couldn’t be happier for the guy.
And unlike Role Models, which was forgettable, but consistently funny throughout, director John Hamburg valiantly tries to forge an original comedy utilizing Rudd’s talents. The result is an intriguing, but uneven attempt hampered by an inability to go the extra mile and, well, Jason Segel.
I don’t really like him.

Why Paul, why? I'm a way better driver than Segel.
Chances are, if I met anyone like him, I’d probably move a state line away to keep clear of any social gatherings. Segel can be funny and he’s got a couple of good gags in the film, but this entire production is really carried by Rudd. Segel reminds me of Seth Rogen, who displays a particular ability to take on characters that most people wouldn’t get along with in real-life. That’s fine in an ensemble film, but this is a buddy film.
And I can’t imagine someone as cool as Paul Rudd’s character would get along with Jason Segel.
I Love You, Man has a great transfer, especially for a comedy, and a robust set of bonus features, so it’s not a terrible Blu-ray. It’s actually a pretty decent one.
And even though I didn’t think it was terribly great, it has some fans out there. Regardless of your intentions to buy, it’s worth a rental because of Paul Rudd (he’s so dreamy). If you can get past the possibility of what it could be and are satisfied with what it is, it might even be a solid purchase.
For the rest of us, there’s always the next Paul Rudd movie.
Verdict:

Editor’s Note: This is a review of a Region 1 release. I Love You, Man was recently released in UK, and is currently available for purchase.
